Here is that position as reported by the State Board in 2009:

 

A CHISELED "X" DOES NOT MEET THE MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR BOUNDARY SURVEYING UNLESS IT IS SOMEHOW MARKED WITH YOUR LICENSE NUMBER PURSUANT TO THE MINIMUM STANDARDS.

 

The problem is not with the "X" itself but that, typically, Land Surveyors have not had the means to affix their license number as required by the Minimum Standards so they set only an "X". This does not meet the minimum standards. If a property corner is to be established in a concrete (or hard) surface there are basically two options:

  1. Drill the surface sufficiently to mark the corner with any standard monument that allows the use of a cap or other marker with your LS number affixed.
  2. Set a reference monument at a location near the corner and make a note of it on your drawing.
